Draftsman (Industrial Designer)

A full-service exhibit design and fabrication firm is seeking a skilled Draftsman (Industrial Designer) to join our creative and collaborative team. We work with private and governmental agencies to design, produce, and install interpretive and wayfinding signage, exhibits, and custom fabricated components.

This position requires the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet tight deadlines, and work effectively within a creative, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Exhibit Design, or related field
  • 2+ years of professional drafting or industrial design experience
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D drafting software
  • Experience on a Mac is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • AutoCAD
    • Fusion 360
    • SketchUp
    • Adobe Illustrator (CADtools plugin a bonus)
  • Familiarity with various file formats
  • Experience with cabinetry or fabrication modeling preferred
  • Ability to create renderings and 3D models

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings for exhibit components, cabinetry, metal fabrication, maps, and tactile displays
  • Generate accurate shop drawings based on designer input
  • Support the fabrication team by drafting special parts
  • Interface with suppliers to provide drawings for laser cutting, 3D printing, machining, water jet cutting, and similar specialty processes
  • Assist with field measurements, including occasional out-of-state travel
  • Maintain organized and thorough project records, including:
    • File management
    • As-builts
    • Finishes and paint colors
    • Hardware and materials
  • For drafting-only projects, you may directly interface with clients and manage the project lifecycle, including:
    • Tracking budgets
    • Monitoring hours
    • Scheduling
    • Understanding scope and deliverables
    • Identifying scope creep
